Experiment Description:

It is the duty of a satellite manufacturer to verify the characteristics of the products it designs and manufactures. The space industry has complied with this rule through laboratory simulations and evaluations. The launching of the LDEF by the Space Shuttle provided an opportunity to observe the actual behav- ior of materials under exposure to the space environment and has made it possible to correlate with artificial aging tests.
