This area provides links to a photographic database of images taken during LDEF pre-launch, deployment, retrieval, post-flight deintegration and data / analysis operations. The LDEF Archive contains a print and negative of each photograph. For further information submit a SETAS Request Information form, or you can (1) browse through thumbnail images or (2) search for a particular experiment in the LDEF photographic database:
As of October 1, 1996, LaRC had placed a publication entitled Photographic Survey of the LDEF Mission (O'Neal, Levine, and Kiser, NASA Special Publication 531) on-line. This HTML document contains a photographic summary of the LDEF mission and documents the effects of more than 5 1/2 years of exposure to the space environment on the LDEF spacecraft and its experiments. The accompanying text explains where each photograph was taken (e.g., in-flight or in the Spacecraft Assembly and Encapsulation Facility II [SAEF II]), the location of the experiment on LDEF, the notable characteristics of each photograph, and general visual observations.
