Information on SIMS slit settings

These values affect the mass resolution of the SIMS instrument. They are stored for archival purposes, nevertheless, as mass resolution was equal or better than 3000 if the 56Fe and Si2 signals could be separated. See an example of a 56Fe and Si2 slit image below. The slit setting values are machine specific.

Energy and slit setting and translation and entrance and exit slit settings were not always noted in the notebook explicitly; standard practice was to record them when they were changed. It is relatively safe, however, to assume that they have similar values as analyses done prior or after the particular run.
