When archiving becomes fun
For those who are not specializing in microparticles, their orbital
dynamics and their detection, here are some archived files that may
be of interest.
LDEF - THE MOVIE
This raytraced MPEG animation of LDEF in orbit was intended to display the
time and orientation resolved impact history but never got finished. Since
a lot of work has been spent on this project, it is included here.
MPEG players might be accessible through
this link. An
excellent DOS based MPEG player and bitmap file format converter is
display.
I TOLD YOU THEY'RE CRATERS
Some stereoscopic red- and blue images (glasses needed) of very small
impact features. These images actually do serve the purpose of learning
more about crater morphology, but they are also just nice to look at.
These craters were produced during hypervelocity impact experiments in
the laboratory. They did not cause a discharge.
SPLASH! - AN ANIMATED ENCOUNTER WITH SURFACE CONTAMINATIONS
MPEG animation showing a threedimensional depth profile imaging
analysis of a surface contaminant. It also shows the sputtering effect
of SIMS analyses and the amount of material
that is removed during such an analysis.
