MSIG Reports and Databases

The following reports produced by the MSIG are currently available from the LDEF Archive Office. To request one of these reports, go to the SETAS Request Information page.

1. "Space Environmental Effects on the Integrity of Chromic Acid Anodized Aluminum", NASA CR-191468.

2. "Results of Examination of LDEF Polyurethane Thermal Control Coatings", NASA CR-4617.

3. "Analysis of Silverized Teflon® Thermal Control Material Flown on the Long Duration Exposure Facility".

4. "Composite Materials Flown on the Long Duration Exposure Facility".

5. "Effects of Space Exposure on Metals Flown on the Long Duration Exposure Facility".

6. "Evaluation of Seals and Lubricants Used on the Long Duration Exposure Facility", NASA CR-4604.

7. "Evaluation of Adhesive Materials Used on the Long Duration Exposure Facility", NASA CR-4646.

8. "Analysis of Selected Materials Flown on Interior Locations of the Long Duration Exposure Facility", NASA CR-4586.

A set of computer models developed at Boeing have been used to define the atomic oxygen and solar ultraviolet radiation environments around LDEF. These computer codes have been transferred to Langley; the creation of codes and accompanying users' guides was funded by NASA.

Contractor reports detailing the atomic oxygen and solar exposures as functions of time and location on LDEF have also been published:

1. "Atomic Oxygen Exposure of LDEF Experiment Trays", NASA Contractor Report 189627, May 1992.

2. "Solar Exposure of LDEF Experiment Trays", NASA Contractor Report 189554, February 1992.

The following series of databases, available through the SETAS/LDEF Archive Office, were funded by the Materials and Systems Special Investigation Groups. The databases are discussed in the LDEF Materials Databases section.

  • 1) Anodized Aluminum
  • 2) Thermal Control Paints
  • 3) Silverized Teflon
  • 4) Optical Materials
  • 5) LDEF Environmental Exposures
